Thank you to the author. Michael was(is) my cousin. As a teenager, I would babysit him and his MacDonald sisters and brothers...what a handful they all were! So many for a teenager to take care of but such fun too! And, yes, Michael would be in the middle of things at times, and other times he would find a safe haven from the crowd! As I went to university and then on to live and work in Newfoundland, Michael would always greet me with a big smile and a "Hello Callista"(pronounced his own way, but much better than our grandfather could say it!) when I would get home with my children for summer visits. You see, I have another connection with Michael...his younger Steele brother, John, became my youngest brother. When Michael went to live with Gerri and Floyd after his mother's death, John came to live with us, the Mac Neil family in Creignish, because my mother, Mary was Charlotte (Mac Donald)Steele's sister. And so, our three families, the Steeles, the Mac Donalds and the Mac Neils were doubally related and intricately intertwined...as first cousins and as "adopted siblngs". I remember Roddie coming from Cleveland for those Sunday visits, bringing Kevin, Paul, Dennis and Maureen to Creignish to visit their brothers, Michael at his house, and John at ours, until Roddie's death a few short years later. Especially touching is my recollection of Roddie and my father, Alex, engaged in conversation amidst this houseful of cousins during those visits; two men, both widowed so prematurely, bravely raising young children on their own in the 70's. Our grandmother, Mary Kate, a stabilizing influence, was a ready support for her two son-in-laws. So, yes, Michael...we've lived, laughed, loved...thank you for your part in all of that. Dance a square set for me in heaven with all our folks up there!
